Dialogue

The goal for this project was to create a short animation using a clip of dialogue. I first drew a man and  used the node view to create a hierarchy for the arms so I could animate them moving around. I then drew the mouth using frame by frame animation to get the mouth to match up with the prerecorded dialogue. With all of this in place I was able to create a short animation of a guy presenting his resume for a job.

Puppet

For this project we had to create a puppet to make a simple animation with. I chose to make a animation of a guy pulling a block from a tower of blocks. I used Harmony's peg feature to rig each limb for movement after drawing the character. I used the node view to organize the controls for my character and to make animating easier. I also animated the character celebrating to show more of how the character could be used.

Walk Cycle

For this project we had to create a walk cycle for a character. I was able to create a simple figure walking on twos for a base. I then used the base to create a defined character which I used in my final. I decided to add a tail to my character to make the cycle more interesting and to add a bit more challenge to animated it. I had to adjust the legs and arms quite a bit to keep them proportional and to keep the feet from sliding. This project helped me with keeping character proportions and how to create character movement.

Weight

For this project we had to create a animation of a character lifting some sort of weight. I chose to use a simplistic style with a character picking up a box. For this project I wanted the box to look heavy so I added a stumble after the box was picked up to create a sense of weight. If I were to do this project again I would have avoided having any sort of sliding on the ground and to use guides to keep the character in one place. I learned from this project how to create a sense of weight through the action of a character.

Head Turn

For this project we had to create a head turn and show how a 2D character would look in a 3D space. I decided to do a wolf like character since the snout would be an interesting challenge to draw in 3D. I started by using pose to pose and then added to it with in betweens. The only problem was getting the angle right on the snout to not cause any shrinking which was difficult to do. This project helped me figure out how to keep the same proportions for a character and how to draw multiple angles for a character.

Floursack Animation

For this project I had to animate a flour sack doing some sort of action. I decided to use a bit of perspective in my animation with the flour sack starting in the background before jumping toward the camera and then doing another jump across the screen. I wanted to have the flour sack notice something so I gave it a little cheer to add a bit of personality. If I were to do this project again I would have probably focused more on the walk to make it less awkward along with the anticipation of the first jump. This project did help show how to keep proportions and how to give personality to a character.

Overlapping Action

For this project we had to create an animation of a platform with a pendulum hanging from it and have the platform with the pendulum be moved across the screen with the pendulum acting accordingly. So I decided to have a crate in a warehouse being moved by a crane to a truck instead of a generic ball and square. This was actually a bit of a challenge since having a square moving around over a circle since the crate had to be angled correctly. I also had trouble getting the crate to come to a stop and be loaded onto a truck since it needed to swing a bit before coming to a stop. This project helped me with spacing out animation to give it a more realistic feel.

Timing and Spacing

The goal with this project was to show how less frames would make the ball move quicker over more frames which would make the ball go slower. So for the initial part 4 lines were created which I then added differently spaced lines to help with placing the ball. The frames were labeled for each and I was able to show how they all moved at different speeds with the last part of the video showing a bit of a bounce at the end. If I were to do this project again I would have drawn the balls to be more similar in size and shape and to make the animation less choppy and more smooth. Overall this really showed how spacing and timing in animation changes the movement drastically.
